Where Do Baby's Come From

Baby Found Under Cabbage One Saturday afternoon, my 5 year old daughter springs the dreaded, where did I come from question on me! In keeping with my always be truthful to wife and daughter policy, I told her that one day I had gone to the garden and I found here neatly tucked under a large cabbage leaf. This seemed to satisfy her at least for now. We were living in a small German town, Sennelager. I was attached to a British Artillery unit as an adviser. In the British sector of West Germany there were few Americans and our only American school was located at Buren, about one and a half hours bus ride from Sennelager.

Subject never came up again until the following year when her first grade teacher was discussing where each child had come from, of course the teacher meant what state and town. However my daughter proudly stated that her daddy had found her in a cabbage patch under a large cabbage leaf! This of course brought a roar of laughter from the class. Ms. Stevens, being an experienced 1st grade teacher, she did her best to get Michelle, my daughter, to tell her what state she had come from, but the answer was always the same, a cabbage patch. When things really went down hill!

My wife, Norma, and I were severed a summons, hand carried by Michelle, to a teacher parent meeting set for 11AM the next day. I was saved from this embarrassing ordeal, I had to lead a convoy of British trucks to Frankfurt and we would depart at 5AM and would not return until about 7 PM. But I still feared, being only 190 miles from Norma was not far enough! After a lengthy lecture on telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, after a few weeks the subject fell to the wayside and was slowly forgotten. At least I thought it had been forgotten.

35 Years Later when ask where were you born, the answer is still the same, daddy found me under a cabbage leaf in his garden!!
Moral of this story is, be careful, very careful what you tell your children, Your going to have to live with what you say for the next 60 or 70 years! copyright © 2008

That was a great story my friend. And to think I am 35 years old now with a 6 yo son.

Thank you for that.
