Food Cost On the Rise And I Don't Care

Well maybe I do care, but, I'm not in a panic about it as many seem to be. Even with the cost of food increasing, we Americans still have the widest selection, most abundant, cheapest food supply in the world.

We moan and groan about the price of a loaf of bread but on the other hand, this is the first time in many years that our nations wheat farmers have made a reasonable profit on their hard work to bring us wheat, corn, soybeans for bread and cereals and other food products.

Grain cost has increased mostly because of record high crude oil prices and failed crops in several countries, most notable is Australia and the ever increasing demand for more and better food in developing countries like China and India. They have lost their wheat crops 2 years in a row! When you have more than 2 billion Chinese and Indians demanding more wheat and other foods, this can only cause short supplies and price increases.

Agriculture as with many other businesses are linked together, what effects one filters down effecting many. High crude oil price effects farming cost, farming fuel, transportation of crops and livestock. Feed cost for livestock has gone up. Fertilizer cost is up, equipment cost, diesel, planting seed have all increased. Yet our farmers can pass little of this cost increase along to the consumers.

I don't complain, I'm only thankful that our farmers produce so much food at such a low cost that I can eat better spending less at the grocers than any other country in the world.
