Solar Power Again or A Rain Day Project

Now that I have your undivided attention, solar power / heating may hepl you with the cost of heating oil, natural gas and electricity as they seem to increase in cost almost everyday, a solar window heater may be just what you need to supplement heating a small room or work shop.

This solar heater is a simple project that can be assembled without any 'special' tools. Almost every home work shop will have all the tools needed to construct this simple solar heater project.

Basically this solar heater is a wooden box the width of your window, 6 to 8 inches deep and at least 4 feet long. It's interior is painted black to maximize sun's solar heating of it's interior surfaces. It's only real draw back is to achieve any real benefit from it, it must be facing south and sloped at about a 45 degree angle. Of course you will need a way to close it off during hours of darkness to prevent heat lost at night. © 2008
